We here at NSC have adopted a different model than most spine surgeons here in Colorado. Throughout my career, I’ve taken great pride in taking my time with patients to explain their condition, go over imaging, and be very thorough in explaining all treatment options. These options include surgical as well as non-surgical options. However, given declining insurance rates against increasing overhead costs, we just cannot make it work by traditional means.

Given the above, we have chosen to go out of network with all payors in an attempt to continue to provide the care we feel that our patients deserve. While I understand that this may come with a higher out of pocket cost to our patients, we feel that it is a step we must take in order to continue to provide the level of care we strive for.  

Our consultations will be patient centered. This means no rushing or watching the clock with any of our patients.  Our goal is that when you leave our office, your condition will be explained, treatment options discussed, and all questions answered. Having a Neurosurgical condition can be a stressful situation, and we do our best to walk our patients through the process in order to fully explain all options for management. 

What does this mean for you?

-If you have out of network benefits with your insurance plan: We bill insurance for all services rendered and it is our responsibility to collect from your insurance as able. 

-If you do NOT have out of network benefits with your insurance plan: We will work with you and your insurance company to determine what options exist.  As a last resort, we offer cash pay rates for consultation, follow-up appointments and/or phone calls, as well as surgical procedures. Cash pay rates for these services will be clearly provided prior to any services rendered, and payment expected prior to services rendered. If surgery is recommended, we will use an “in network facility” and those will be approved through insurance, so it is only the surgeon fees that might be expected in cash.  

-We will accept Medicare and there will be no additional out of pocket costs for Medicare patients. Medicare will be billed directly by our team. 

-Unfortunately, we will not accept Medicaid or Tricare. 

While we do apologize for any inconvenience this causes, we feel it is necessary in order to provide the level of care that our patients deserve. If we can help or answer any questions, please don’t hesitate to call.
